HIT 110 - PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Health Information Technology or department approval. This course introduces students to current trends, practices, standards, and legal issues in both traditional and contemporary roles in Health Information Technology.

HIT 120 - MANAGEMENT FOR HEALTH INFORMATION

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Health Information Technology or department approval. This course focuses on decision-making, team building, and managing new technologies while addressing healthcare organizational information needs.

HIT 130 - LAW AND ETHICS IN HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Health Information Technology or department approval. This course explores topics including HIPAA privacy and security, corporate compliance, legal proceedings, patient safety, e-discovery, and ethical issues in health information technology.

HIT 150 - HEALTHCARE REIMBURSEMENT METHODOLOGIES

Prerequisite: MEDO 115 and MEDO 117 both with a "C" or better. This course provides information on the impact of U.S. healthcare reimbursement systems on healthcare delivery. Topics of coding, health insurance, compliance, and value-based purchasing initiatives will be explored.

HIT 200 - ALTERNATE HEALTHCARE SETTINGS

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Health Information Technology or department approval. This course explores management of health information, regulations, roles of healthcare professionals, and trends in traditional and non-traditional healthcare settings.

HIT 220 - COMPUTER USE IN HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Prerequisite: CMGEN 120 or CMPSC 120 with a grade of "C" or better. This course provides an introduction and overview to electronic health records, healthcare computer systems, and basic database management. Students will gain hands-on experience with a variety of electronic health record and healthcare computer systems.

HIT 240 - STATISTICS FOR HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Prerequisite: Admitted into the Health Information Technology program and placement into Math 111 or higher, or equivalent. This course includes basic mathematical statistical concepts, along with healthcare-specific calculations including length of stay, inpatient service days, occupancy, and rates.

HIT 250 - HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONAL PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE

Prerequisite: HIT 150, HIT 130, HIT 220, and HIT 240 all with a grade of "C" or better. This is a supervised practicum course which is arranged for students in a variety of healthcare settings where they will have the opportunity to apply Health Information Technology concepts and skills.
