CMCIS 147 - TELECOMMUNICATIONS CABLING

This course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experiences in order to learn the physical aspects of voice and data network cabling and installation for employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. In addition, it will help prepare the student for the Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) Registered Installer, Level l certification. Instruction includes, but is not limited to: safety issues; basic networking; termination of copper, coaxial, and fiber cable; Quality of Service (QoS); rough-in, trim-out, and finish phases; and wireless networking.

CMCIS 151 - INTRODUCTION TO NETWORKS

The first course in the CCNA curriculum introduces the architectures, models, protocols, and networking elements that connect users, devices, applications and data through the Internet and across modern computer networks - including IP addressing and Ethernet fundamentals. By the end of the course, students can build simple local area networks (LAN) that integrate IP addressing schemes, foundational network security, and perform basic configurations for routers and switches.

CMCIS 152 - ROUTING AND SWITCHING ESSENTIALS

Prerequisite: CMCIS 151 with a grade of "C" or better. The second course in the CCNA curriculum focuses on switching technologies and router operations that support small-to-medium business networks and includes wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts. CMCIS 153 - ENTERPRISE NETWORKING

Prerequisite: CMCIS 152 with a grade of "C" or better. The third course in the CCNA curriculum describes the architectures and considerations related to designing, securing, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise networks. This course covers wide area network (WAN) technologies and quality of service (QoS) mechanisms used for secure remote access along with the introduction of software-defined networking, virtualization, and automation concepts that support the digitalization of networks. Students gain skills to configure and troubleshoot enterprise networks, and learn to identify and protect against cybersecurity threats. They are introduced to network management tools and learn key concepts of software-defined networking, including controller-based architectures and how application programming interfaces (APIs) enable network automation.

CMCIS 154 - WAN COMMUNICATION

Prerequisite: CMCIS 153 with a grade of "C" or better. This course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience with WAN technologies and network services required by converged applications in a complex network. Instruction includes but is not limited to an understanding of wide area network technologies, virtual private networks, broadband connections, and security technologies. This is the fourth of four courses that assist in the preparation for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification by developing skills in core routing and switching technologies for enterprise-level network configurations.

CMCIS 155 - CCNA CERTIFICATION REVIEW

Prerequisite: CMCIS 154 with a grade of "C" or better or CCNA or department approval. This course will review topics required to successfully pass the Cisco Certified Network Associate professional certification.

CMCIS 156 - CCNA VOICE

Prerequisite: CMCIS 152 with a grade of "C" or better, CCNA certification or department approval. This Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) specialization course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in networking operations specific to IP telephony technologies (VoIP). Instruction includes, but is not limited to a continuation of basic router and switch configurations with a focus on VoIP fundamentals and architecture, traditional telephony operations, call control, and voicemail solutions. Students will also gain valuable hands-on experience with the administration of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) and Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) for use in small office and enterprise-level communication networks. This course assists in the preparation of the CCNA Collaboration certification.

CMCIS 157 - CCNA WIRELESS

Prerequisite: CMCIS 152 with a grade of "C" or better, CCNA certification or department approval. This Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) specialization course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience with wireless technologies and architecture. Instruction includes, but is not limited to a continuation of all router and switch configurations with a specific focus on wireless technologies and fundamentals, basic Cisco WLAN installation, wireless clients, security protocols, and wireless network administration. The emphasis of the CCNA Wireless course will be on configuration, implementation and support of wireless LANs using Cisco equipment for use in small, medium, and enterprise installations. This course assists in the preparation for the CCNA Wireless certification.

CMCIS 158 - CCNA SECURITY

Prerequisite: CMCIS 152 with a grade of "C" or better, CCNA certification or department approval. This Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) specialization course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in skills aimed at maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data and devices. Instruction includes, but is not limited to a continuation of all router and switch configurations with a specific focus on security fundamentals using Cisco firewall technologies, development of security policies, and techniques to mitigate risks and attacks in small, medium, and enterprise networks. The course will also address abilities to recognize vulnerabilities in networks and detection of potential security threats. This course assists in the preparation for the CCNA Security certification.

CMCIS 170 - CCNA CYBERSECURITY

Prerequisite: CMCIS 151. This CCNA specialization course is designed to introduce students to core security concepts and skills needed to monitor, detect, analyze and respond to cybercrime, cyberespionage, insider threats, advanced persistent threats, regulatory requirements, and other cybersecurity issues facing organizations. It emphasizes the practical application of the skills needed to maintain and ensure security operational readiness of secure networked systems. This course assists in the preparation for the CCNA Cybersecurity certification.

CMCIS 270  - CCNP ENTERPRISE: CORE 

Prerequisite: CMCIS 153 with a grade of "C" or better or department approval. This CCNP course is designed to provide students with comprehensive coverage of professional-level networking technologies. This course focuses on implementing core enterprise network technologies including dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6) architecture, virtualization, infrastructure, network assurance, security and automation. This course is aligned with both the CCNP and CCIE Enterprise certifications.

CMCIS 271 - CCNP ENTERPRISE: ADVANCED ROUTING

Prerequisite: CMCIS 153 with a grade of "C" or better or department approval. This CCNP course is designed to provide students with implementing and troubleshooting knowledge of professional-level networking technologies. This course focuses on implementing and troubleshooting of advanced routing technologies and services including Layer 3, VPN services, infrastructure security, infrastructure services, and infrastructure automation. This course is aligned with the CCNP Enterprise certification.

CMCIS 273 - CCNP SWITCH

Prerequisite: CMCIS 271 with a grade of "C" or better or department approval. This course is designed to provide students with classroom and advanced laboratory experience focusing on switching technologies. Instruction includes, but is not limited to campus networks, switching, legacy media types, VLANs, trunking, spanning-tree, redundant links, multilayer switching, first-hop redundancy protocols, multicasting, and security. This course assists in the preparation for the CCNP certification by further developing networking skills in CCNA core switching technologies while also expanding knowledge and experience in advanced enterprise-level network configurations.

CMCIS 274 - CCNP TROUBLESHOOTING

Prerequisite: CMCIS 273 with a grade of "C" or better or department approval. This course is designed to provide students with classroom and advanced laboratory experiences in relation to troubleshooting and supporting a network. This is the capstone course for the entire Cisco program. Instruction includes, but is not limited to a comprehensive review of all routing and switching configurations for the CCNA and CCNP-level courses, support resources for troubleshooting and use of CCO accounts. This course assists in the preparation for the CCNP certification by further developing networking skills in CCNA core routing and switching technologies while also expanding knowledge and experience in advanced enterprise-level network configurations.
